The paintings “Tartar woman in the porch” by Nicolae Tonitza and “In the garden at Beaucaire” by Samuel Mutzner, assessed at EUR 40,000 to 60,000 each, are among the works to be put on sale at the summer auction of Artmark auction house, an event taking place on June 10 in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. The summer of 2014 starts with a cultural incursion in the world of Romanian artists’ mirages, providing all art aficionados the opportunity to embark on an epic journey of the Romanian art history, from the Balcic Colony to the Baia Mare School, from patrimony art to contemporary art, according to a release from Artmark auction house.
The exhibition “Great Maestros of Romanian painting” of the summer auction of Artmark will set off in Bucharest, “The little Paris” of the period between the wars, and will arrive in Cluj-Napoca where the works will remain on display for five days, as of Thursday, at Continental Hotel. The exhibition can be admired in Bucharest until Wednesday at Cesianu-Racovita Palace. The exhibition will conclude with the duplex summer auction Bucharest – Cluj-Napoca on June 10, at 7 pm. At the time of the auction, half the items can be found at the University House in Cluj-Napoca and the other half can be found at Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest. Among the names present at the auction of Artmark house there are Theodor Aman, Nicolae Tonitza, Gheorghe Petrascu, Nicolae Darascu, Francisc Sirato, Samuel Mutzner, Camil Ressu, Iosif Iser, Ion Theodorescu-Sion, Rudolf Schweitzer-Cumpana, Alexandru Ciucurencu, Corneliu Baba, Ion Pacea, Constantin Piliuta, Nicolae Ilfoveanu etc. The surprise for the public is the presence of famous European artists such as Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse and Lucien Levy-Dhurmer in a unique section for European art.
