Two paparazzi were detained yesterday morning for assaulting two cameramen near Ghika Palace in Bucharest, where the wedding ceremony of former Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu (PNL) was held, Police officials have stated, as cited by Mediafax. The incident broke out late Saturday after 11.00 p.m. when a conflict ensued between three tabloid paparazzi near the gates of Ghika Palace and two of the stewards hired for the party. One steward was hit in the head with a bottle by a paparazzo, but the conflict was temporarily settled after Seventh District police officers arrived at the scene and found no one wanted to press charges. After the police officers were gone, the paparazzi, offended by the fact that they were being filmed, assaulted two of the journalists present. Two cameramen – from ProTV and Realitatea TV – were assaulted and the Seventh District police officers returned to the scene. Following the incidents, the three paparazzi gave statements at police headquarters, the cameramen filed charges, and eight witnesses and the two stewards also gave statements. The assaulters will go before the court with a recommendation for remand in custody.
