The appointment criteria for prefects is a government’s administrative matter, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos told the plenum of the Chamber of Deputies on Monday.
“I have to confess that when I saw the title of the debate you have proposed, I hesitated whether to come in front of you or not. The way I read article 206 of the Chamber of Deputies’ Regulation, I don’t see to what extent the criteria of appointing the prefects is a matter of major interest for the political, economic or social lif,e as it is an administrative matter of the government, according to the current legislation,” Ciolos said at the debate on new prefects’ appointment criteria.
He emphasized that the government has the exclusive competence to appointing and dismissing the prefects.
“The appointment and dismissal of the prefects are the exclusive responsibility of the government and the criteria considered in the nomination of the new prefects are merely a component of an analysis process covered at the Government level through the Interior Ministry. I see no reason to detail from case to case the outcome of the analysis, that falls under the government’s attribution,” Ciolos added.
