PM Ponta officially visits Italy, meets Italian PM Renzi, Pope Francis


Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Thursday began a three-day visit to Rome; he will meet Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on Friday, and he will be received by Pope Francis on Saturday, a Government release informs. ‘The agenda of the talks between the two prime ministers includes the bilateral political and economic cooperation between Romania and Italy within the Strategic Partnership, and other current point of the European agenda, with emphasis on the priorities of the Italian Presidency [of the EU] in the second half of 2014, and on the goals promoted by Romania,’ the release shows. ‘Prime Minister Victor Ponta will be received by His Holiness Pope Francis in a private audience (…) The Romanian Premier will also meet H.E. Msgr. Pietro Parolin, Cardinal and Secretary of State of the Vatican,’ the same source mentions. A set of bilateral projects in the education and culture fields will be discussed, as well as the facilitation of ecumenical cooperation through the promotion of dialogue between Churches, and the support for Romanian communities abroad. The delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs Titus Corlatean.
