“Nine O’Clock” daily handed out last evening, in a festive mood, the “Persons of the Year 2012” Awards at Intercontinental Hotel.
The gala, organized for the 22nd time, was attended by political leaders, members of the government, bankers, well-known Romanian and foreign businessmen and over 40 ambassadors accredited to Bucharest.
The surprise of the evening was the handing out, after a four-year hiatus, of the “Politician of the Year” award. The award went to Premier Victor Ponta. Since the Head of the Cabinet was meeting the Austrian Chancellor in Vienna at the time, the award was received by Minister Dan Sova.
The “Romanian Diplomat of the Year” award was won by state advisor and former secretary of state within the Foreign Affairs Ministry Luminita Odobescu, while the “Foreign Ambassador of the Year” award was won by His Excellence Andreas von Mettenheim, the German Ambassador to Bucharest. The “Bank of the Year” (Raiffeisen Bank), “Banker of the Year” (Sergiu Oprescu – Alpha Bank CEO), “Romanian Businessman of the Year” (Iuliean Hornet, President Ecohornet), “Insurance Company of the Year” (Asirom) and “Law Firm of the Year” (Noerr) awards, as well as several special awards, were also handed out.
