PNL Congress today and tomorrow, internal elections top agenda
The Liberals will hold their first congress after the elections this Friday and Saturday. The congress, scheduled on February 22-23, will reconfirm Crin Antonescu as party leader with enhanced powers and an efficient control over the party. Party branch members will validate new changes in the leadership structure, featuring an expanded Political Bureau for which nominations have already been made. With a team selected from his close entourage and with the move to sign Klaus Johannis, Crin Antonescu remains unscathed by the Chiliman-Tariceanu-Moisescu dissidence and is laying the groundwork for the presidential elections in 2014. During the first day of the congress the Liberals will vote the party’s new statute. The party’s new leadership will be elected on the second day. Crin Antonescu offered assurances that nobody will cast a shadow over his re-election at the congress and has consolidated his strategy by making three key moves. According to hotnews.ro’s sources from within PNL, the main changes brought to the statute will concern a far greater representation within the party’s leadership structure.
