PNL prepares status modification in view of upcoming congress

The National Liberal Party prepares several amendments to the status regarding the way they elect the party leaders, amendments to be discussed and approved during the congress announced for the end of this month.

President of PNL Status Commission Catalin Boboc told Mediafax that 31 vice-chairpersons will be elected in uninominal manner and not on the list, the general secretary will be proposed by the new PNL chairman and the number of the Political Committee members will increase.

The executive responsibilities of the vice-chairpersons will be established after the congress during the Political Committee and validated by the Standing Delegation, as their responsibilities were set at the moment they were elected in the Congress. The party general secretary will be proposed by PNL chairman and validated at the Political Committee.

The new formula of the Political Committee will include as members the branch leaders, the leaders and deputy leaders of the parliamentary groups, presidents of standing parliamentary commissions, city mayors and chairpersons of county council and the leader of the PNL MEPs delegation.

Thus, the number of the Political Committee members will be significantly higher than the current number which includes 15 executive vice-presidents, chairpersons of county councils and mayors of major cities.

The PNL senator said that the decision of the party joining the European People’s Party or remaining within the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe will be debated separately within PNL Congress and a resolution will be adopted.

The merger with PDL will be the topic of the decision of the Standing delegation and not of PNL status. Boboc said that the status of the new PNL-PDL right-wing party will be able to be promoted in a joint congress after the liberal congress at the end of the month.
