National Liberal Party (PNL) Senator Cornel Popa announced on Monday that the Liberals have tabled a memorandum calling for the Romanian Parliament and the Moldovan Parliament to hold a solemn joint sitting on March 26-27, to mark the date on which the act of the Great Union was adopted by the Country Council in 1918.
“Last week, I tabled a memorandum on behalf of PNL, being of the opinion that it is appropriate, during the Union year, to mark the first event of international significance that took place when the creation of the Romanian unitary state started, namely we asked that on March 26-27 we should hold a solemn sitting of the Romanian Parliament and the Moldovan Parliament, in order to mark the date on which the act of Union was adopted by the Country Council in 1918. (…) I made this proposal on behalf of PNL, the party of the Union, and I believe it should have been marked appropriately, in a solemn sitting,” Cornel Popa stated.
Popa stated that the memorandum was not included in the working folder of the Senate’s Standing Bureau, and Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said he will forward this proposal to the Joint Standing Bureaus.
“I saw that this memorandum was not registered within our working folder (at the Senate Standing Bureau – editor’s note). Calin Popescu Tariceanu said he will make the proposal within the Joint Standing Bureaus,” the Senator pointed out.
