For several weeks, until the half of August, Prahova will be an important attraction on the gymnastics map. It will be the host of the first international rhythmic gymnastics summer camp, an event marking an exchange of experience between the gymnasts and the technical team of the Ploiesti Municipal Sports Club and participants from Hungary, Canada, Italy and Romania.
The official opening of the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Training Camp was held on July 24, 2017, at the Sports Hall of the Bucov commune. Being organized with the support of the Bucov Local Council and City Hall, the event aims to help the gymnasts attending the camp to gain experience; they will be prepared by professionals with a great experience in the field. Specifically, within this international summer camp, the former great Romanian athlete Mirela Dulgheru, who is an “Honorary citizen of Ploiesti”, Ph. D. professor at the Ploiesti “Oil-Gas” University, master of sports and world champion in the long jump in 1993 at Buffalo (USA), will be responsible for the physical training elements. Alexandra Piscupescu, who is multiple national champion, and who has recently left gymnastics in order to be a coach, joining the Romanian technical staff, but also an international referee, will be a special guest. The event organized in Bucov will also bring in Prahova the former gymnast from Ploiesti Ileana Alecu, who is a coach at the Ploiesti School Sports Club; she is currently living in the United States of America; she participated in the European Championships of 1989 (Tenerife, Spain – the 4th place at the Team competition, together with Irina Deleanu and Mariana Apostu, the 8th place at individual all-round and the 7th place at the rope) and in the World Championships of the same year held in Sarajevo (Yugoslavia – the 6th place at the Team competition, together with Irina Deleanu and Adriana Stoenescu).
The international rhythmic gymnastics summer camp from Bucov, Prahova, will be led by coach Simona Puiu – a physical education and sports teacher, multiple national champion as an athlete, who has already formed several gymnasts who are members of the national team, such as Denisa Stoian and Miruna Ciocirlan, nominated among the most valuable ten Romanian athletes -, and by coach Liliana Baescu, an international referee who founded the rhythmic gymnastics department of the Ploiesti Municipal Sports Club. The camp will be attended by the gymnasts of the club from Ploiesti, together with representatives of Hungary, Canada and Italy. The event will take place in two stages. The first session, which has already began, will end on August 3, while the second one will be held from August 6 to 17.
The sessions will consist of intensive training combined with relaxing activities. More precisely, there will be two training sessions a day, with choreographic elements and outdoor physical training, as well as specific training. At the same time, a trip to the Slanic Saline and a recovery session in Bucharest at Therme center will be scheduled.
During this event, the athletes of the Ploiesti Municipal Sports Club, members of the Romanian National Gymnastics Team – Denisa Stoian and Miruna Ciocirlan – as well as their younger colleagues – will hold sports demonstrations to prove the beauty of this sport.
In order to mark the international meeting of the rhythmic gymnastics practitioners in Prahova, the Mayor of Bucov announced that on the occasion of the debut of this event, the name of the titled athlete will be officially assigned to the Sports Hall in Bucov, which will become, this way, the “Mirela Dulgheru Sports Hall”, as a result of the proposal made by the Bucov Local Council, supported and approved by the Prahova County Council.
