Premier: We can do more for R. of Moldova, despite not being rich


Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Friday declared that Romania can be more supportive for the Republic of Moldova, although it does not have much money available. ‘We are not the richest, we are not like West Germany in confront of East, but nevertheless we can do more (…) I have asked Vice Prime Minister [Liviu] Dragnea to confirm he has finally got from the Government in Chisinau the list concerning the day-care units, and the 20 million euros will be immediately released to the Government,’ Ponta said at the meeting with the representatives of the Siret-Prut Euro-region Association made up of 26 county chairpersons of the Republic of Moldova. The head of the Romanian Government mentioned that several concrete actions to the benefit of the Republic of Moldova are about to be put into practice. ‘The gas pipeline is almost completed; CNADNR [the National Roads and Motorways Corporation of Romania] informed me  on the feasibility studies for the two priority bridges asked by [Moldovan] Prime Minister [Iurie] Leanca,’ Ponta asserted.
Premier Ponta has promised the Government’s support in particular, for the construction of a bridge over the Prut at Bumbata-Leova, next to the other two in Ungheni and Falciu. The Moldovan authorities called for speeding up the 400 Kw overhead power lines project. Ponta said there was a problem with Ukraine and for this reason, the project has been delayed. “There was a problem with Ukraine in December and now we must find a solution with the new Ukrainian Government, because they put a spanner in the works,” Ponta said.
The representatives of the Siret-Prut-Nistru Euroregion were also received by President Traian Basescu at the Cotroceni Palace, with the head of state expressing interest in the stage of the projects aimed at revamping education institutions in the Republic of Moldova, funded by Romania.
