PSD Caras-Severin vice-chairman Ion Bejerita is being targeted in a tax evasion case resulting in damages of RON 5 million. A series of searches were conducted in connection with the case on Monday, including at Bejerita’s home, judicial sources cited by Mediafax have stated. Bejerita is the godson of Ion Mocioalca, deputy and vice-chairman of PSD for the Western region, and owns Emiliano Vest, a construction company that manufactures asphalt mixtures and gravel pit aggregates, according to Evenimentul Zilei daily.
The investigators also searched the residence of businessman Axinte Obrejan, known for his close relationship with Sorin Frunzaverde, Caras-Severin County Council chairman.
Overall, nine searches were carried out yesterday in Caras-Severin County on suspicion of tax evasion, forgery of documents under private signature, and money laundering committed by several company representatives, resulting in damages of RON 5 million.
According to the prosecutors with the Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, between 2009 and 2014 the representatives of certain companies from Caras-Severin County presumably kept records of fictional operations.
The prosecutors’ operation is conducted in collaboration with the Fraud Investigation Division of the General Police Inspectorate of Romania and based on technical and informational support provided by the Romanian Intelligence Service.
