Pupil stabbed to death on his way to school
A 15-year-old pupil was stabbed yesterday, near the “Ion Ghica” High School of Economics in Targoviste. He was later taken to hospital where he died.
According to the Dambovita County School Inspectorate spokeswoman, Mihaela Anton, the victim, a 9th grader at the High School of Economics, was on his way to school when he was stabbed. Mediafax quoted the spokeswoman as saying that, according to the victim’s classmates, the incident happened in an apartment building gangway while the victim was heading to school.
A short while after the stabbing, police caught the prime suspect in the case and took him for hearings to the Targoviste Municipal Police headquarters. The suspect is an 18-year-old boy from Razvad, a commune bordering the Targoviste municipality. The Dambovita County Police spokeswoman said that the victim and the suspect did not know each other.
The school’s principal, Suzana Ilie, said that the victim was a good pupil and caused no discipline problems. She also said that the school has not faced such incidents before. “We suspect a conflict was at stake. It all happened in a gangway. What happened is perplexing,” the school principal said, who added that 9th graders were a source of concern to the school given the “signals” that “several dubious individuals were often looking for those pupils. The two security guards however prevented those individuals’ access was prevented into the school and the pupils’ parents have also been informed about the situation.”
Dambovita Prefect Victor Sanda said he would “urgently” talk to City Hall officials in order that school security is enhanced. Mediafax quoted the prefect as saying that the stabbing happened in a quiet area of the city, in a passageway commonly used by local inhabitants, a place located a mere 200 meter away from the Prefecture. He also described the event as unprecedented.
