Radio Symphonic Orchestra of Finland opens second edition of RadiRo Festival


The second edition of the RadiRO Festival will open in Bucharest with an extraordinary concert of the Radio Symphonic Orchestra in Finland on September 20 at 7 pm at the Radio Hall, reports Hotnews. Sibelius, Beethoven, Grieg and Richard Strauss will be included in the program of the first appearance of the orchestra of the Finnish Radio broadcast on a stage in Romania, along two exceptional artists, conductor Joshua Weilerstein and pianist Jonathan Biss, reports the event organizers.
Founded in 1927 in the busy years of the European radio stations, the Radio Symphonic Orchestra of Finland holds concerts all around the world and is highly appreciated in its country of origin, which has more orchestras per capita than any other state around the world.
RadiRo 2014 proposes a meeting inspired from one of the most spectacular radio orchestras in Europe, famous for its flexibility and diversity of their artistic repertoire and two highly talented American musicians of the younger generation.
Endowed with a charisma and body language that overwhelms the public right from the start, Joshua Weilerstein is an assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic and a conductor invited to the helm of prestigious orchestras all around the world, winner of many prizes for conducting in Europe and the US. Along a highly talented young conductor, there is a similarly famous pianist as the first evening of RadiRo brings Jonathan Biss on the stage, artist who is only 34 years old, but an impressive repertoire and awards collection. A highly refined musical intelligence, Jonathan Biss has worked along conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel or Antonio Pappano and has multiple prizes won on the international artistic stage for his musical performance.
RadiRo Festival organized by Radio Romania is a unique event in Europe, as the only festival devoted only to radio orchestras. The second edition of RadiRo will take place between September 20 and 27 and will bring 5 European radio orchestras for the first time in Bucharest, along with top conductors and soloists. RadiRo 2014 honorary director is conductor Cristian Mandeal.
