Roland Garros: Simona Halep in the quarterfinals


4WTA) on Monday qualified in the quarter finals of the Roland Garros tournament, after defeating Sloan Stephens (USA) 6-4, 6-3, according to Eurosport.
She will play in the quarters against the winner of the match between Svetlana Kuznetsova and Lucie Safarova which was played late on Monday evening.
Andrea Petkovic’s decision to hold off trading in her tennis racket for a career in journalism paid off on Monday as she reached a grand slam quarter-final for the first time in three years with a 1-6 6-2 7-5 win over Dutch qualifier Kiki Bertens, according to Eurosport.
In the quarters Petkovic will play against Italian Sara Errani, who, also on Monday  defeated Jelena Jankovic 7-6, 6-2.
Rafael Nadal, an eight-time winner at Roland Garros, booked his place in the quarterfinals following a straight sets win over Dusan Lajovic, CNN reports.
Nadal proved his powers to rule on clay were as impressive as ever.
Nadal, who will face compatriot and world No.5 David Ferrer for a place in the last four, prevailed 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 after outclassing his Serbian opponent.
The World No.1 is hoping to secure a fifth straight title on the clay in the French capital and remains favorite to do so.
Ferrer, who was beaten by Nadal in last year’s final, overcame South Africa’s Kevin Anderson to reach the last eight.
Ferrer took the first two sets 6-3 6-3 before Anderson fought back to take the third on a tie-break.
But the 32-year-old powered home, taking the fourth 6-1 to reach his 10th successive Grand Slam quarter-final.
Ferrer defeated Nadal for the first time on clay in 10 years in April — one of three defeats the reigning champion suffered in the lead-up to the French Open.
“I will try to do my best,” Ferrer told the ATP website.
Florin Mergea/Marin Draganja qualify for quarterfinals
Romania’s Florin Mergea and Croatia’s Marin Draganja have qualified on Sunday for the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles competition at Roland Garros, after defeating Spain’s Feliciano Lopez and Austria’s Jurgen Melzer, score 7-5, 6-3. In the quarterfinals the two will meet Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic, the competition’s top seed 3 pair which eliminated Romania’s Horia Tecau and Netherlands’s Jean-Julein Rojer (top seed 13) in the last-16 stage.
