ENTy wants to revolutionize the diagnosis of the equilibrium problems

The three students that are representing Romania are Flavia Oprea, Iulian Matesica and Cristian Alexandrescu. Their team, called “ENTy” (an acronym for – Ear, Nose, Throat), develops a device designed to revolutionize the way that the measuring is made and the diagnosing of the medical problems of balance.

The measurement of the posture and balance has an important role to validate the necessary skills in some domains – climbing, aviation – as from a medical standpoint, as a diagnostic for a series of problems in the O.R.L. sphere. Currently, the measurements are made by using some voluminous and costly equipment, problems that the created prototype by those three removes them from start, getting the same functional results.

The device – already used by several doctors in a pilot program – consists of a series of sensors arranged on two “braces” , linked to a “brain” that measures, records and interprets the data and is inside a reduced size box. All of the device is powered by batteries and can easily be worn by the patient even for long periods. The stored and the transmitted data in the cloud can be accessed by the user (doctor or patient) via an interface type “dashboard” that allows views and interpretations of the information.

In the medium term, the team intends to encourage the use of the device for correcting posture and balance problems. As they will obtain the necessary certifications, it is predicted an extension of its use in the medical domain and in the sports domain.
