Romanian Davis Cup team boycotted


In a show of solidarity with former Romanian Davis Cup team captain Andrei Pavel, recently sacked by the Romanian Tennis Federation (FRT), the team’s four main players have refused to take part in the game against The Netherlands, a game scheduled on April 6-8, hotnews.ro informs. Victor Hanescu (95th in ATP ranking), Adrian Ungur (100th ATP), Marius Copil (249th ATP), Victor Crivoi (256th) and Horia Tecau (9th in doubles ranking) will be replaced by four players set to be chosen from the following list: 23-year-old Petru-Alexandru Luncanu (437th in ATP ranking), 23-year-old Andrei Daescu (685th), 18-year-old Darius Florin Bragusi (940th), 18-year-old Alexandru-Vasile Ghilea (1,128th), 19-year-old Teodor Nicolae Marin (1,418th) and 27-year-old Florin Mergea (1,507th in singles ranking and 244th in doubles ranking). Romania will play against The Netherlands on April 6-8 in Amsterdam on a fast court. The game counts for the second round of Group I Europe/Africa. The Dutch team consists of the following players: Robin Haase (53rd), Jean-Julien Rojer (38th), Thomas Schoorel (123rd), Igor Sijsling (125th) and captain Jan Siemerink.
