Romtelecom and Cosmote will merge as of this September to form one company whose objective is to become the leader of the Romanian telecom market. According to market sources cited by Economica.net, the new entity under which Romtelecom, Cosmote, and Zapp will operate will be called TELEKOM ROMANIA. Cosmote, the mobile phone communications service will be rebranded as TELEKOM ROMANIA MOBIL, whereas Romtelecom, the oldest domestic market landline communications brand, will be called TELEKOM ROMANIA FIX. TELEKOM ROMANIA will be the largest operator on the domestic market with revenues of EUR 1.07 billion in 2013, higher than current leader Orange Romania, whose reported revenues in 2013 were up to EUR 934 million.
