Rugby Nations Cup: Romania 24 – Portugal 0


Romania’s rugby team took an important step towards qualifying for next year’s Rugby World Cup in England, by defeating Portugal on the Cluj Arena on Saturday, score 24-0 (16-0 at half time), in a game counting for the European Nations Cup, Agerpres informs. As a result, Romania now has 23 points after 6 games (5 wins and one draw). Romania’s points were scored by Radoi, Gall (1 try each) and Vlaicu (4 penalty shots and 1 conversion).
The more than 5,000 fans that were in the stands of the splendid Cluj Arena (at a temperature of just 4 degrees Celsius) were able to see a confident and solid Romanian side with an otherwise well-known strong offense and an impenetrable defense, everything betraying balance and perfect cooperation between the team’s compartments. Although most of the points were scored in the first half, which was more balanced, the second half of the game showed a Romanian side that was almost continuously in the opponents’ half. Without exerting itself, the team chalked up a victory that keeps it on one of the top two places of the European Nations Cup rankings that gives it the right to qualify directly for the World Cup.
Romania will next play a very important away game against Russia in Krasnodar next Saturday.
