The Senate’s plenum unanimously adopted yesterday the draft law on relieving the courts and on preparing the implementation of the Civil Procedure Code. The Senate adopted the draft as the first Chamber notified, although the Head of State had asked for the law to be re-examined in order for the Senate to be the decisional Chamber. The adoption of the draft law was on the agenda of last week’s meeting between President Traian Basescu, Speaker of the Senate Crin Antonescu, Speaker of the Lower Chamber Valeriu Zgonea and Premier Victor Ponta. In November 2012, President Traian Basescu sent back to Parliament the law on relieving the courts, pointing out that the Senate was the first Chamber notified, which runs against the Constitution in the case of these laws, and asking for the Senate to be the decisional Chamber upon the re-examination of the law.
