Senator Marius Nicoara explained on Tuesday, on Facebook, his decision to resign from the National Liberal Party (PNL) and join the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), stating that PNL is no longer the construction he started 28 years ago alongside “a few courageous and passionate people.” Nicoara claims that there are “many other authentic Liberals” in ALDE, which means that his departure from PNL does not mean “an abandonment of Liberal principles and values.”

Senator Marius Nicoara explained on Tuesday, on Facebook, his decision to resign from the PNL and join ALDE.

“More than 28 years ago, more precisely in the first month of 1990, along with a few courageous and passionate people, I set out to rebuild the National Liberal Party. We were doing that with great confidence in Liberal values. The party we built back then, whose vision I followed, was centred on economic development, the backing of private initiative, the consolidation of democracy. All of that was seen and appreciated particularly during the Liberal Government led by Calin Popescu Tariceanu,” Marius Nicoara wrote on Facebook.

He went on to point out that “Liberalism in the form built and promoted during that period is no longer found in the current form of the National Liberal Party.”

“There are many situations that determine me to regretfully note that today’s PNL is no longer the construction I started 28 years ago, that I dreamed and, to a good extent, accomplished. For instance, the fact that PNL opposes the new administrative code, the fact that the attempt is being made to relocate an important project for the county, more precisely the relocation of the Regional Emergency Hospital from Floresti commune, the fact that PNL is no longer the representative of the fight for justice and is no longer a symbol of democracy,” the Senator adds.

Marius Nicoara states that he has joined Calin Popescu Tariceanu’s ALDE, where “there are many other authentic Liberals.”

“My decision does not mean a betrayal of the National Liberal Party, nor an abandonment of the Liberal principles and values. I chose to join my old Liberal colleagues alongside whom I rebuilt the PNL 28 years ago. I am convinced that by joining ALDE, the team of veritable Liberals around Calin Popescu Tariceanu, I will be able to contribute, through my political-administrative experience, to the development of Cluj and of Romania, as I did in the past,” the Senator writes.

Senator Marius Nicoara announced, on Monday evening, his decision to leave PNL and join ALDE.
