Being already a tradition, the most long-lived European guitar festival will be hosted by Sinaia. This year’s edition will be held over one week and will end at half of July; the recitals will be held by foreign artists.

From July 10 to 15, 2017, in the Prahova County, at Sinaia, a new edition of the International Classical Guitar Festival will be held. Being 34 years old, the event has become the most long-lived European guitar festival, in the country with the youngest classical guitar school in Europe. For the Romanian culture and education, the Sinaia International Classical Guitar Festival is the starting point of the national guitar school. With his first edition in 1983, when the guitar was deemed only an instrument and was studied at the amateur level in popular art schools or at the culture houses, the festival becomes international since 1995, with the establishment of the Romanian Guitar Foundation. The Romanian educational units – universities, schools and high-schools – establish classical guitar sections, restoring the role and the place of this instrument in the history and literature of the cult music.

The goal of the Sinaia Classical Guitar Festival is to provide the young classical guitar school in our country the opportunity to study the most important international masters of the moment, to hear valuable instrumentalists of the great concert stages, and to compare itself with traditional schools of its kind worldwide.

With the support of the Sinaia Municipality, of the Casino Sinaia International Conference Center, of the Peles National Museum and of the Carmen Sylva Cultural Center, the recitals of this year’s edition will be held according to the following schedule, in the concert hall of the Sinaia Casino, each evening starting at 19.00, as follows: July 10 – Nicola Montella – Italy; July 11 – Krzysztof Pelech- Poland; July 12 – Judicael Perroy – France; July 13 – Duo Melis – Susana Prielo (Spain) and Alexis Muzurakis (Greece). The gala concert called “Fife o’clock at the castle” will be held on Friday, July 14, in the spectacle hall of the Peles Castle, starting at 17.00. The awarding festivity will take place on Saturday, July 15, in the George Enescu Hall of the Carmen Sylva Cultural Center.

The festival will also include workshops, recitals, the contest of the young guitarists, as well as an exhibition.
