Sochi 2014: Finland eliminates Russia from hockey tournament

Finland on Wednesday provided the biggest surprise of the hockey tournament eliminating Russia in the quarters 3-1. In the semis Finland will play against Sweden who, also on Wednesday, defeated Slovenia 4-0.
Men’s national hockey team of Sweden earned its fourth straight regulation win in Sochi, downing Slovenia 5-0 in the first quarter-final on Wednesday, according to sochi2014.com. Carl Hagelin had a pair of goals in the victory. Showing great patience, Sweden played its most complete game of this tournament thus far. They put this one away with four third-period goals.
“We’re ready to step it up,” said Sweden’s Marcus Kruger. “We’ve been playing against three pretty similar teams in our last three games, so we know it’s going to be very tough to step up a notch for Russia or Finland. This late in the tournament there are only going to be hard games.” In the semis Sweden will face the winner of the Finland-Russia match, ended after the closing of this edition..
Bjoergen takes Norway to women’s team sprint gold
Norway’s cross country skiing superstar Marit Bjoergen on Wednesday took her country to victory in the women’s team sprint race, the fifth Olympic gold of her career.
