Special Committee set up for preparing Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU

Parliament approved on Wednesday the setup of a Joint Special Committee of the Deputies’ Chamber and the Senate that will coordinate the parliamentary activities necessary for Romania presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019.

A number of 285 were in favour and 51 abstentions were recorded.

The Special Committee will be in charge, among others, of coordinating the activities related to organising the events within the parliamentary dimension of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, to implement a framework of dialog with the Gov’t in order to determine the objectives in this respect.

This Committee is to function until the completion of Romania’s mandate to the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Deputy of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Roberta Anastase announced that the Liberals abstained from voting.

“PNL (…) established that by setting up this committee we would only overlap this committee’s attributions over those of the specialist committees,” Anastase said.
