A new protest against the stray dogs took place on Saturday in Bucharest. Meanwhile, the problem of stray dogs in Romania was raised at European level.
The spirits have not calmed down regarding the stray dogs in our country, a new protest having taken place in the capital. Thus, about 40 people protested on Saturday in Victoria Square demanding the gathering of the dogs from the streets and parks and recommending to those who support the sterilization of stray dogs to adopt and take care of them. The participants at the protest organized by the online community of parents Desprecopii.com and Pro Civilization Association urged the authorities to raise all stray dogs from the streets and take them to shelters. The protesters clamored “If you care, mass adoption” and displayed a banner reading “No to dogs’ droppings on our green spaces because we have the right to have a clean environment”. On the other hand, the problem of stray dogs in our country was raised at European level, more than one voice militating against their euthanasia. Italian liberal MEP Andrea Zanoni says that he sent a letter to President Traian Basescu to express his dissatisfaction with the law on euthanasia of stray dogs, the politician addressing himself also to the European Commission in order to adopt regulations at EU level regarding the animals. Also, Birgitte Bardot teamed up with Pamela Anderson against euthanasia of stray dogs in Romania. The two stars have signed a joint letter and addressed it to the President of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, in which they ask him to talk to President Traian Basescu about the issue of stray dogs’ euthanasia. Last but not least, over 150 dogs were adopted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from the municipal shelters, compared to 25 last week, the program for adoption being extended from 9.00 to 15.00 starting next week. Also, more than 300 stray dogs were picked from 122 schools in the capital and taken to shelters. Most Romanians (60 per cent) believe that the best solution to the problem of stray dogs is the euthanasia, reveals a Sociopol survey quoted by Agerpres.
