Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu stated on Sunday on Facebook that the rule of law is under the siege of the parallel system of power, saying that Romania has made a “huge” regression in the matter of the observance of the fundamental rights and freedoms, compared to the early years after 1990.

“(…) the rule of law in Romania is under the siege of the parallel system of power. Most of the Romanians are worried because Romania has made a huge regression in the matter of the observance of the fundamental rights and freedoms, including compared to the early years after 1990, when a series of force institutions were not reformed yet” the Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu wrote on Facebook.

Calin Popescu Tariceanu said that he receives every day complaints from citizens condemn flagrant violations of the rights and freedoms.

The Senate’s Speaker claimed that new evidence emerged related to the attempts made by the parallel state to distort the democratic process.

“There are a lot of questions related to the attempt to influence the result of the presidential elections of 2009, when heads of the force institutions were sitting at the same table with politicians. We also have certainties regarding abuses of the deep state against politicians, in the attempt to influence key electoral moments. Such a moment was in 2014, when there was a surveillance warrant on the name of several politicians, including me” Tariceanu said.

Tariceanu stated that people “at the top of the force institutions, where corruptions reveals in a huge dimension” refuse to be subject to any democratic control.

“Last but not least, in a state of law, Parliament is the only lawmaking authority. Unfortunately, in Romania we have statements of those who must apply the law, by which the Parliament’s right to legislate is under question” Tariceanu wrote.

The Senate’s Speaker said that those who “sign the payroll of the deep state will deny the obviousness until the end”.

The Facebook post of the Senate’s Speaker was a right to reply, in the context in which he refused the invitation to participate in a TV show.
