Tennis: Horia Tecau awarded special trophy

Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau, the only player to have won three consecutive tournaments in the doubles competition held as part of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy, was awarded a special trophy by the organizers of the event. According to a release remitted to Agerpres on Monday, Bogdan Enoiu, president of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy, presented Horia Tecau with a trophy designed by sculptor Ioan Nemtoi, dedicated to the remarkable performances of the Romanian player in Bucharest.
Horia Tecau and Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer confirmed their status of favorites in the doubles tournament of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy this year and managed to succeed in the final against Polish players Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, winners of the tournament in Bucharest in 2006.
As such, Horia Tecau enters the history of the Bucharest tournament as the Romanian player with the most wins on the clay surface in Bucharest and the only player that managed to win three consecutive doubles tournaments in Bucharest.
Horia Tecau triumphed in Bucharest in 2012, partnering with Swede Robert Lindstedt; this was the first time in 14 years when a Romanian took home the title after Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu managed to win in 1998. Horia Tecau defended his title in 2013 at the side of Belarusian Max Mirnyi, being the first title conquered by the two playing as a pair. In 2014, Horia Tecau became triple champion in Bucharest, conquering the 19th title in his career, together with his partner, Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer.
