The curtain goes up for the 21st edition of the International Student Film Festival CineMAiubit

The 21st edition of the International Student Film Festival CineMAiubit, an event which became a tradition of UNATC “I. L. Caragiale” and of Romania, will start on December 5 at the ATELIER Hall of UNATC Bucharest, 75-77 Matei Voievod Street.

The festival is organized by the National University of Theater and Cinematography “I. L. Caragiale” Bucharest (UNATC), the Metropolis Theater and the Cinemaiubit Foundation, with the support of the National Center of Cinematography (CNC), of the Union of Romanian Filmmakers (UCIN) and of DACIN SARA.

Being the most important international student film festival in Romania, CineMAiubit is the place where most of the Romanian filmmakers who are unanimously recognized, have made their public release over the time.

This year too, CineMAiubit is waiting its guests with enthusiasm, with various and valuable movies in which the voices of the tomorrow’s cinema can be seen and with its unmistakable spirit that defines it since 1996.

The opening will take place on Wednesday, December 5, at 19.00, at the Atelier Hall of UNATC, and the public will enjoy short films from all over the world in the next four days. Besides Romania, the participating countries are: Israel, Poland, Turkey, USA, Iran, Belgium, China, Argentina, Spain, India and Russia; some of the most famous cinema schools of the world will have movies at the festival’s competitions.

The stake of the competition is the Best Film Award, along with more than 20 other awards, including: the “Cristian Nemescu” Award for direction, the Special Award of the Jury, the UCIN President’s Award, the UNATC Rector’s Award, the Best Image Award, the Best Editing Award, the Best Sound Award “Andrei (Otto) Toncu” and the traditional Critique Award granted by the UCIN Film Criticists Association.

The three main sections of the festival are fiction, documentary and animation / experimental, and spectators can be sure they will see on the big screens a wide range of cinematographic visions from different cultural areas.

CineMAiubit continues the tradition of the competition also for the short film screenplay, for photography and for the film posters.

The international jury of the festival gathers both Romanian and foreign personalities of the cinema world.

The composition of the FICTION Section Jury is:

Anca PUIU – the President of the jury, film producer;

Diana CAVALLIOTI – actress, well known to the Romanian audience for her role in Ana, mon amour;

Boris KARADZHEV – film director and professor at VGIK (Russia);

Ellis FREEMAN – producer, screenwriter and professor at DFFB (Germany);

Bülent KÜÇÜKERDOĞAN – professor (Turkey);

Ioakim MYLONAS – Artistic Director of ISFFC (Cyprus);

Vivi DRAGAN VASILE – photography director, producer;

Vali HOTEA – film director;

Eugen KELEMEN – film editor.

 

The DOCUMENTARY Section Jury gathers: Rebekah JORGENSEN – film director and professor in USA, Isabela TENT – double winner of the documentary competition of our festival and winner of the Gopo Award, and Ioana GRIGORE – documentary film director and graduate student at UNATC at the recently established documentary film studies program.

The jury of the Animation-Experimental section consists of the animation directors Constantina MIHAILA and Octavian FRECEA and the film criticists Laurentiu BRATAN.

Besides, under the aegis of the festival, there will be the sixth edition of the MIDPOINT INTENSIVE scriptwriting workshop for short films, where teams of filmmaking students will work being guided by Csaba Bollok.

An acting workshop supported by Professor Dragan MILINKOVIC from Serbia will be held on December 7 and 8, at UNATC – the Berlogea Hall.

A workshop dedicated to the animatin movie will be also held at CINETic (UNATC’s research center).

Besides the competition sections, the CineMAiubit Festival also has two special screenings, on Saturday, December 9, at the Atelier Hall of UNATC. Movies made by teenagers, winners of the SUPER Festival, will be screened at 13.00, while at 15.00 there will be screened a retrospective of the movies made in the last 10 years by the students of VGIK, Moscow.

There will be three book releases at the CineMAiubit Festival; all of them will be held at the Berlogea Hall of UNATC: on Wednesday, December 6, at 19.00: “Calatorie intr-o lume uitata” and “3 pazeste” by Ovidiu Georgescu; on Thursday, December 7, at 19.00: “Florin Mihailescu imaginea imaginii de film” by Titus Vijeu, and on Friday, December 8, at 19.00: “MasterPlot 2017”, a volume of screenplays written by the UNATC students.

The access is free to all festival screenings.
