Tourism Minister, Mircea Titus Dobre, asked the PM Mihai Tudose’s Control Body to investigate the activity of the external promotion offices; the control started two days ago. The action comes after Minister Dobre decided, three months ago, to dismantle the promotion offices from abroad.
“I asked PM’s Control Body to perform these checks. The control started two days ago. The papers are at the Tourism Minister and they are related to the activity of the promotion offices from aboard” stated the Tourism Minister, Mircea Titus Dobre, for News.ro.
He estimates that he will already have the first conclusions in one or two months.
The Tourism Ministry decided three months ago to dismantle the external promotion offices, invoking irregularities found by the Romanian Court of Auditors.
These offices are the offices in Berlin, Rome, Vienna, London, Warsaw, Moscow, Paris and New York, each one having one employee.
The employers in the tourism field and representatives of this sector criticized this decision, arguing that it will have negative consequences and that no consultations have been held before.
The external promotion offices will be reopened after the notion “attaché in the tourism field” will be regulated, and the employees will have the status of a diplomat when the contests for these position will begin, according to the Minister.
The countries where the new external promotion offices will operate will be decided by the Consultative Committee on Tourism.
In the following period, the Tourism Ministry, together with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Labor Ministry, will draw up a statute for the employees of the external touristic promotion offices and a contest regulation, based on which these position will be held.
