Minister of Transport Ioan Rus asked the managers of Romanian airline TAROM to come with a plan of immediate steps towards the improvement of the company’s balance, given the fact that it operates among strong competition, a ministry’s release informed on Tuesday. Rus paid a working visit to TAROM and to the Air Traffic Services Administration Romatsa and met the representatives of the private management and of the trade unions on Tuesday, in an effort to pinpoint the current problems of these companies. Rus called the unions to step up the dialogue with the management and contribute to finding the most efficient solutions for TAROM’s recovery, the document mentions. TAROM cut its losses by 44 percent in 2013, on a 2012 basis; the losses were 100 million below the previous year level, and 30 percent (56 million lei) below the approved budget for 2013. The net balance of TAROM in 2013 was 130.168 million lei, down from 230.618 million lei in 2012. Total income in 2013 was 1.274 billion lei, up 7.187 million, and the net turnover was 36.871 million lei (3 percent) up, to 1.085 billion lei. TAROM has cut its total expenditure by 6 percent in 2013; the figure was 93.262 million lei down from the 1,497 billion lei figure of 2013.
