Racing car fans will enjoy tuned engines and adrenaline will increase at the end of this week, in the most well-known resort in the Prahova County, Sinaia. A new edition of the Dunlop Coast Speed Championship will take place, a competition with many similarities to the famous rallies from Monte Carlo.
From July 21 to 23, 2017, Sinaia will host the 9t edition of the Dunlop Coast Speed Championship 2017, which counts for the fifth stage of the Dunlop National Coast Speed Championship. This year’s competition will kick off on Saturday morning, on July 21, with the recognition tours and timed trainings, and the contest itself will be held on Sunday. The event is organized by the Sinaia Municipality and the Carpati Sinaia Sports Club, under the aegis of the Romanian Athletics Federation. The competition will take place on a route with the following characteristics: length: 3015,2 m, maximum slope: 8%, level difference: 163,3 m. According to the organizers, the start will be at the Heroes Cemetery in Sinaia, and the route will continue on the streets Manastirii, Furnica, Calea Dorului and Drumul Nou al Cotei 1400 (e.n. – The New Road of the 1400 Elevation). The interest of those who will attend this edition appeared to be quite high, since 70 pilots enrolled until July 17, three days before the end date for subscribing to the contest. According to the public data, there will be pilots who will compete at the wheel of some well-known racing cars brands. These brands are: Ferrari 458 Challenge, Ferrari 430 Challenge and Alfa Romeo Afletta GTV, Honda Civic, Renault Clio, Honda Civic EG6, Renault Megane, Honda Civic EP3, Radical RXC V8, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6, Volkswagen Golf 1 GTI, BMW 2002 TI, Opel Ascona, Citroen C2 R2, Citroen, Mitsubishi, Suzuki Swift Sport, Suzuki Swift Sport 2008 and 2013, Dacia Logan and Dacia Sandero, Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
We mention that even though the mayor of Sinaia – a sports lover, including motoring – has lined up at the start at the most recent editions, along with the other pilots, he will miss the competition this year, for personal reasons. “The show provided by this race is unique because it is the only one on a city route, with many similarities to the Monte Carlo race, and therefore, the participation in the Sinaia Forever Trophy increases every year. I wish luck to all those who attend this event of which I am very attached. Unfortunately, due to an injury, I will not be able to pilot this year, as I did until now” said Vlad Oprea, Mayor of Sinaia.
The competition will consist of two independent rounds that will be ranked separately, and points will be awarded for each round. The ranking will consider the time taken in each of the two rounds. According to the competition rules, in the event that no round of the competition can be completed, the entire stage will be canceled. Pilots who will not be able to complete the whole route due to blocking the route or who will be disturbed by another competitor, will be able to return to the start led by the safety car, with the approval of the sports director, after consulting the route referee. The round will end when the pilot crosses the finish line. The first three ranked pilots will be awarded immediately after the last climb. The award ceremony will be held in “Dimitrie Ghica” Park, if there is good weather, and if it rains, it will be held at Casino Sinaia.
