Two other MPs under criminal investigation for conflict of interests
Social-Democrat Senator Sorin Constantin Lazar and Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) Deputy Kerekes Karoly have been opened criminal investigations for conflicts of interest by prosecutors at the Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court. The two are charged with hiring their sons for their parliamentary offices.Prosecutors say Senator Sorin Constantin Lazar has proposed and approved the individual work contract allowing his son to be hired at the senator’s constituency office during Sept 1, 2010 – 1 October 2011.In his turn, Deputy Kerekes Karoly is criminally investigated for conflict of interests, having repeatedly proposed and authorized his son’s hiring for his parliamentary office between Oct 3, 2006 and May 18, 2009, and for perfecting three Chamber of Deputies-paid civil service contracts for his wife, Mediafax reports. In Sept 2011, the National Integrity Agency notified the Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court about Deputy Karoly Kerekes employing his relatives for his parliamentary office, which put him into a conflict of interest situation.
