UDMR deputy to be tried for conflict of interests


Prosecutors of the of the Criminal Prosecution Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office Attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (PICCJ) completed the investigation on the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) deputy Kerekes Karoly and decided to send him to court for the offense of conflict of interests. The prosecutors’ charges assert that between October 3, 2006 and May 18, 2009 the defendant allegedly proposed hiring his son at his parliamentary office; he approved the two individual employment contracts signed with the latter and he signed three service contracts with his wife and his son. According to the prosecutors, these contracts directly resulted in benefits amounting to 56,663 lei paid from the Chamber of Deputies’ budget to the deputy’s family members. The case has been sent for trial to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
