Unemployment reaches 7.2 pc in February

In February 2014, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Romania was estimated at 7.2 percent, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous month and at same level as in February 2013, according to data released on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS). The number of unemployed (aged 15-74 years) estimated for February current year is 721,000 persons, down from the previous month (730,000 persons) and up from the same month of the previous year (714,000 persons). According to a breakdown by gender, men’s unemployment rate is with 1.1 percentage points higher than that of women (7.7 percent for male, against and 6.6 percent for women). Unemployment among adult persons (aged 25-74 years) was estimated at 5.7 percent in February 2014 (6.2 percent in the case of men and 5.1 percent in the case of women). The number of unemployed aged 25-74 years accounts for 73.6 percent of the total number of the unemployed estimated for February 2014.
