PM Victor Ponta inaugurated the Observation Center for the Vacaresti Natural Park, located in the Fourth District in the area surrounding Lake Vacaresti between Vacaresti Road, Oltenitei highway, Vitan-Barzesti highway, and Splaiul Unirii. It is the highest observation point of a protected area in the world. Authorities have promised to make the Natural Park one of Bucharest’s main tourist attractions. At the inauguration ceremony, PM Ponta announced EUR 200 million of European funds made available to Romania in the 2014-2020 interval will be allotted for the Danube Delta. Aside from the intent to transform the area into a tourist attraction, there are several underlying problems related to land ownership in the perimeter of the so called delta. The Prime Minister’s arrival was expected by persons who claim they own land in the area of the park. Ponta has stated these people will be reimbursed, but he explained he cannot disclose the exact amount before an assessment is carried out.
