Prime Minister Victor Ponta asserted that the VAT cut (from 24 percent to 9 percent) for bread was a successful initiative, and it would be continued. ‘The step of cutting the VAT for bread was successful and we will definitely continue it! An important assurance for everyone – we have adopted the VAT reduction for bread products, and it proved to be a good measure, with a positive impact on people, on the economic environment, and for fighting tax evasion!’ . Ponta also promised that the Executive will consider ‘applying differentiated VAT for other categories of foodstuff, too.
