Volksbank joins the Council of Banking Employers in Romania

The Council of Banking Employers in Romania (CPBR), the employers’ organization of the country’s banking sector, approved Volksbank Romania as its newest member, marking its second expansion in the past month. The members of CPBR’s Board of Directors – Steven van Groningen (Raiffeisen Bank), Rasvan Radu (UniCredit Tiriac Bank), Philippe Lhotte (BRD – Groupe Societe Generale) and Tomas Spurny (Banca Comericala Romana) – approved Volksbank’s membership at their meeting on 29 July. The six banks now composing the CPBR own about half of total assets in Romania’s banking system, while their employees combined make more than a third of the total hires in the country’s banking sector. “Volksbank’s decision to join the CPBR reflects the fact that they want to contribute to our objectives of having a more modern and competitive banking system, one that should also offer consumers real protection,” said Steven van Groningen, the President of CPBR’s Board of Directors.
