Romanian Ion Panait stopped short of winning gold in the 66-kilo event final against Russian Ambako Vaciadze, 0-3, 0-3, yet, he still got his silver at the European Greek-Roman Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan. Panait went past Bulgarian Emil Milev, 3-0 (3-0) in first round Ukrainian Sergey Krasilnikov 3-2 (3-0) in the last 16, and Azerbaijani Farid Mansurov, 0-0 (5-0). Romanian female wrestler Ana Maria Paval Friday grabbed bronze in the 55-kilo event, having defeated Valentina Minguzzi of Italy. She outwrestled Ukraine’s Natalia Sinisin 8-3 (3-1 technical points) in the quarter-final, emerged victorious over Czech Lenka Martinakova, 6-2 (3-1), yet lost the semi-final to Russia’s Natalia Golt, 1-4 (1-3). In the battle for gold, Paval won a clear win against Italian Minguzzi, 8-0 (3-0).
Romanian Estera Dobre took silver in 51-kilo Thursday, having lost the final to Swede Fofia Magdalena Mattsson. Russia’s Liubov Lobosova proved the best in the 63-kilo event, and Zlateva Stanka of Bulgaria, in 72-kilo. Cristina Raluca Croitoru came 7th in the 48-kilo event, and Roxana Camelia Iancolovici took the same spot, yet in the 72-kilo event.
