13-year old dies following appendicitis surgery in Prahova

A 13-year old girl from the Prahova town of Mizil dies within ten minutes or an appendicitis surgery. She suffered a respiratory and cardiac arrest, Realitatea TV informs. The parents blame the anesthesiologist for killing their child who, according to them, was in perfect health.

‘I think they administered her too much anesthetic. The girl was purple and in pain, she dies in my arms’, said the mother, Filofteia Aron. The doctors said the surgery had gone well and that they did not know what could have caused the respiratory and cardiac arrest. ‘The surgery went well, the same did the anesthesia. Ten minutes after leaving the operating room, she suffered a respiratory and cardiac arrest and died. It was probably caused by the anaesthesia, but we cannot be absolutely sure until we receive the coroners’ report’, said Dr. Romeo Margarit.

The parents have already filed a complaint with the Prahova Public Health Directorate. The College of Medical Doctors will also conduct their own investigation. The girl had been admitted into the Mizil Hospital on Monday and underwent the fatal surgery on Tuesday.
