A young woman was killed and another one is in a coma after they were run over while crossing the tramway lines on Bucharest’s 13 Septembrie Boulevard, ‘Gardianul’ daily informed yesterday. According to the police officers, the car crash took place around 9.15 PM when a 24-year-old Bucharester employed within a military base in Ghencea lost control of the steering wheel at high speed and collided with a tramway station. The car rolled over, hitting the two women that were crossing the lines. The drunk driver subsequently fled the site of the crash. He turned himself in several hours later and was taken to the ‘Mina Minovici’ Legal Institute where blood samples were taken in order to ascertain his blood alcohol content. The two women suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Emergency University Hospital in Bucharest. The 30-year-old woman slipped into a coma. The 26-year-old woman later died in hospital, her injuries consisting of perforated lungs and broken ribs. The investigations into the accident will be carried out by the Criminal Prosecution Office from within the Supreme Court’s Prosecutors Office.
