PD-L files EP list of candidates

Democrat-Liberal Party leaders, together with party president Emil Boc, yesterday filed their list of candidates for European Parliament elections with the Central Electoral Bureau. The list comprises 43 candidates. PD-L also filed over one million signatures in support of the list. Boc said that list “combines professionalism and the capacity of representing Romania’s interests in the EP” and the future PD-L MEPs will contribute to EU fund absorption, lifting monitoring of the legal system, Romania’s joining the Schengen area in 2011 and the euro zone in 2014. Boc underlined that his party is determined to win the elections for the EP, but refused to make any estimates as to how much votes it will secure. When asked whether PD-L will support the independent candidacy of President Traian Basescu’s daughter, Elena Basescu, Boc replied, “It would be ideal for a person to cast two votes. But unfortunately, we can only cast one and our vote goes to PD-L.”

The first five places on PD-L’s list are taken by Theodor Stolojan, Monica Macovei, Traian Razvan Ungureanu, Cristian Preda, Marian Jean Marinescu.
