300 sportsmen of 41 countries attend the competition.
The Romanian sportswoman Roxana Cocos won the bronze medal of the Weightlifting European Championships of Bucharest, at the “clean and jerk” events of the women’s 58 kg category, by lifting 114 kg. At the men’s 56 kg category, Gabriel Olaru achieved the 8th position at the “clean and jerk” events by lifting 100 kg and the 6th position at the “snatch” events by lifting 131 kg, which brought him an overall 8th position with 231 kg.
The Weightlifting European Championships are hosted by the “Ioan Kunst Ghermanescu” Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest, during April 5 – 12, and Romania is represented by fifteen sportsmen, eight in the men’s competition and seven in the women’s competition.
Nicu Vlad, the President of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation, declared at the opening of the European Championships at the Polyvalent Hall that up to that moment, the guests had expressed their contentment regarding the organization of the competition.
The Weightlifting European Championships will continue until Sunday and will be attended by approximately 300 sportsmen by 41 countries. The opening ceremony was attended by Nicu Vlad the President of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation, Monica Iacob Ridzi, the Youth and Sports Minister, Antonio Urso, the President of the European Weightlifting Federation, Elisabeta Lipa, the President of the Dinamo Sports Club, Octavian Bellu, state secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Olympic Champions Doina Ignat, Georgeta Andrunache (canoeing) and Doina Melinte (athletics).
