The Agency of Public Estates (ADS) will be dissolved and its assets will be managed by municipalities from now on, Agriculture Minister Ilie Sarbu informed yesterday.
ADS is operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, its task being the privatisation of farms and public farming concessions managed by such farms. Yesterday, the Government adopted a draft law transposing some provisions from the code of Best Practice in the retailing of agri-food products, document that will be promoted in Parliament in a procedure of emergency, Mediafax informs.
Minister Sarbu said he hoped the rules introduced would make Romanian goods ‘more present’ in stores and prices drop by 20 to 30 per cent.
The minister also stated that the product price would no longer include the 15 different charges imposed by retailers such as the shelf charge. Last June, producers and retailers signed a Code of Best Practice in agri-foods retailing, document that entered into force after the Competition Council said it wasn’t breaking the relevant legislation. Although the Code had become applicable last year, producers have repeatedly claimed that the paper has actually not changed the charges and practice of big retailers and that it should be replaced by a binding act.
Yesterday afternoon, PSD leader Mircea Geoana and the Social-Democratic ministers of the Cabinet went to the Victoria Palace for a meeting in preparation of the Cabinet meeting. The talks at the Government was a follow-up on the discussion between Mircea Geoana and the PSD minister on the revision of the budget on other economic and social measures the Executive is working on.
