Octavian Bellu, secretary of state within the Ministry of Youth and Sport, has pleaded on Wednesday for sport, movement and health, during a press conference on the Bucharest Marathon scheduled on October 18.
Octavian Bellu has stated that in the context of the current crisis, organizing an international marathon is an act of courage.
‘If there still are people that take something from the little they have in order to contribute to sports, then it means that we have a future and a hope. I believe that such efforts will grow in number even though they seem isolated. I hope that the Romanian Athletics Federation, which is fairly visible especially through the budget that it has received, will ensure the proper conditions for the competition’ Bellu stated.
He went on to state: ‘Bucharest has the ‘where,’ the ‘who’ and the ‘what’ when it comes to organizing such a competition, the only thing left to do is give it colour. If there will be 5,500 runners compared to the 3,500 registered last year then the effect is visible.’
The MTS representative went on to say that apart from the ones interested in winning medals there are also the ones preoccupied with increasing the number of people that practice the sport.
