Post-mortem Major Petre Tiberius buried yesterday at Targu Mures

The funeral of the post-mortem Major Petre Tiberius took place yesterday afternoon, at the Cemetery of the Heroes from Targu Mures, where almost 1,000 persons – comrades, relatives, officials – gathered to pay him a last tribute, Mediafax informs. After the military ceremony and the religious service, several addresses were delivered, among which one from the former colleagues from “Vulturul” Special Operations Battalion from Targu Mures, and a message from Colonel George Thiebes, commander of the American Special Forces, the text being read by a former army comrade of Major Petre Tiberius, together with whom he had carried out several missions.

The message of the US officer evoked the “devotion and the self-sacrifice to change the world for the better” of the post-mortem Major Petre Tiberius, emphasizing that he was “a real hero and a model,” and that “a great man and an example” were lost through his death. The coffin with the Romanian soldier dead in Afghanistan was lowered into the tomb after the Guard of Honour fired a salute, while the national anthem was played.

The order of the National Defence Minister regarding the advance to the rank of post-mortem Major of the dead officer and the presidential decree regarding the granting of the medal “Steaua Romaniei” in the rank of Knight, with war insignia, were presented both at the funeral, and on the airport, upon the repatriation of the body of the military. The Romanian officer Petre Tiberius was murdered in Afghanistan, last Friday, in a crossfire with the rebels.
