Two frigates to be modernized

The Romanian Navy’s ‘King Ferdinand’ and ‘Queen Mary’ Type 22 frigates could be modernized within the Constanta Shipyard (SNC) with the help of Thales Nederland BV Company, ‘Ziua’ daily informed yesterday citing a communiqué issued by SNC. Thus, it seems that the Constanta Shipyard and Thales Nederland BV will jointly take part in the tender that the MoD will organize for the contract on the modernization of the two frigates as well as that on insuring the integrated logistical support that is necessary for maintaining the ships operational throughout their life cycle. According to the aforementioned source, the two companies have reached an agreement on signing a letter of intent, a document that will mark the formation of a strategic partnership between the Constanta Shipyard and the Thales group, the latter being one of the main European contractors in the defence, aero spatial and security industries.

The purpose of the partnership formed with Thales Nederland BV is the presentation of a competitive offer for the MoD’s contract on modernizing the ‘King Ferdinand’ and ‘Queen Mary’ frigates at NATO standards, as well as cooperation in other similar project, the aforementioned source adds.
