Metalurgists ask the state to force investors to respect their commitments

Thousands of members of “Metarom” Federation picketed, yesterday, Ministry of Finances venue, a protest following which Minister Gheorghe Pogea called them to a meeting, the union members asking him to intervene in the current situation of metalurgy as well as for preserving jobs.

According to Agerpres, Union Federation of Metalurgists (FSS), “Metarom”, asks for temporary unemployment be avoided, for the raise of “real income” in metalurgy, which is currently below the average level in economy, along with the intervention of state authorities in increasing the occupation degree and in reducing unemployment through concrete and relevant measures.

Within the current context, in order to avoid a social and economic disaster in metalurgy, the Romanian State has to take action and to oblige the investors to respect the commitments undertaken at the privatization time, according to those declared by union leader, Mircea Scantei.

The claims of the unions consist in full preserving of jobs, participation of the Romanian state in the socio-economic issues from metalurgy, in securing orders for the development of a normal productive activity, and in putting an end to having employees temporarily dismissed (receiving 75 per cent of the salary) and in increasing the “real revenue” in metalurgy, currently below the national average.
