Italian construction group Astaldi estimates its business in Romania will stagnate this year at about EUR 140 M, company Regional Director Luca Canino told Mediafax yesterday.’ We hope to keep the same level (the one of 2008 – our note) in the context of the crisis,’ said Canino. He noted that the group’s local operations had generated a turnover of approximately EUR 140 M in 2007 as well. Canino said the company had arrears of a few tens of millions of RON for work done last year. The value of the group’s contract portfolio in Romania amounts to a total of EUR 500 M. Some of the projects the Italian group is involved in are the construction of the Medgidia-Constanta segment of the Motorway of the Sun, the Basarab flyover and the National Stadium on the Bucharest ‘Lia Manoliu’ complex. Astaldi has 1,600 employees in Romania and is not planning any layoffs.
