Consortium to build Comarnic-Brasov motorway segment to be selected during April 20-25

The consortium to be awarded the concession of the Comarnic-Brasov motorway segment will be selected in the April 20-25 period, later than the initial term, as the companies have asked for additional clarifications, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Radu Berceanu stated yesterday, Mediafax reports.

The minister added that he could not indicate the value of the contract for the construction of that particular motorway segment.

Any truck exceeding the maximum admissible weight will risk being seized, the minister added. Berceanu said the employees of the National Company for Motorways and National Roads of Romania (CNADNR) who are schooled by the company, after three years quit and move to private employers whom they teach how to obtain as much money as possible from the state for as little work as possible. Another problem identified by the minister is that the oversized personnel of state-owned railway companies who benefit from too big salaries. The minister announced changes that will cause social unrest in the following two-three weeks.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has paid EUR 140 M plus penalties of EUR 4 M under the contract for work done on the Transylvania motorway, Berceanu added. Moreover, apart from existing projects, two new segments should be started this year: Cluj-Mihailesti and Mihailesti-Suplacu de Barcau.
