Every two years, the Foreign Investors Council of Romania (FIC) publishes a White Book that contains a general analysis of the investment climate in Romania and a series of specific recommendations seeking to improve the business environment. FIC Vice-president Mariana Gheorghe, who attended the launch of the White Book 2009, said that the institution she represents sets out to spur the development of the business environment and the document is the result of the work of more than 1,000 people involved with the project. ‘We are aware of the numerous challenges we have in Romania, notably at this time of crisis,’ she outlined. For his part, presidential adviser Bogdan Teodoriu relayed President Traian Basescu’s message, saying that the dialogue with business people is a premise necessary for creating a business-friendly environment. ‘In the current national and international economic context, the voice of foreign investors is so much more important in order to create coherent policies aimed at allowing development. The White Book offers support to authorities. This is where you find topics of major importance, such as the energy market, taxation, labour market or European Funding,’ he concluded.
