‘I suggest that Traian Basescu should issue a decree. Article 1 should read: Adrian Nastase is guilty, and article 2: Adrian Nastase shall be shot.’ Realitatea TV reports that Nastase’s statement comes after he and the president traded barbs over the former’s dossiers.
Judges with the High Court of Cassation and Justice yesterday adjourned until May 25 the court date for hearing the ‘Quality Trophy’ case in connection with which Nastase is charged with influence peddling while president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) to collect funds for his 2004 presidential campaign. Agerpres reports that the court set a new date in court so that lawyers can prepare the defence, given the bulky dossier. Upon exiting the court hall, Nastase said he is by no means connected to the charges, as a party president cannot sign any contract and could not have been involved with collecting the said funds.
Further more, Adrian Nastase said that the ‘Quality Trophy’ event was held in March 2004, and he took the decision to run for president but in August-September 2004, and therefore any link to that event is out of question. He again accused the National Anti-corruption directorate (DNA) for acting on political command.
